On May 23, 2003, Sergeant Rene Hernandez, who was assigned to Century Station, passed away in an off duty traffic accident while driving home from Palm Springs. The men and women of Century Station organized the Century Station Memorial Ride in honor of Rene Hernandez, to assist his family in their time of need. Over the next couple of years, Century Station suffered more losses and the memorial ride benefited their families as well.

The Memorial Fund Committee consists of three deputies, one sergeant, and one civilian employee. The fund is controlled strictly by the men and women of Century Station and not used to support any financial issues of the Sheriff's Dept. It is monitored and supported by Century Station Unit Commander, Captain Kerry Carter along with former unit Commaders, Ernie Chavez, James J. Hellmold and Hoseph M Gooden. The fund has been able to help many deputies from the LA County Sheriff's Department, as well as officers and their families from different cities and counties. The Memorial Ride helps to sustain this fund and contributions made depend on the fund availability.
